Chelsea want to be the ‘biggest in Europe’ in the near future but the project at the club is a long-term one that will require patience.
That’s according to agent Manuel Sierra, who represents Blues duo Moises Caicedo and Kendry Paez and has been speaking about the situation at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have been undergoing a major rebuild sine Todd Boehly and Clearlake capital bought the club from Roman Abramovich last summer.
In the time since they’ve spent over €1bn on transfers across three windows, paying big money for players across the world in an attempt to overhaul the squad.
There has been a focus on young players since their arrival, with the Blues scooping up big talent from across the world in an attempt to establish themselves in the coming years.
Sierra was heavily involved in one of their biggest transfers in the form of Caicedo, who joined in a club record deal from Brighton this summer as one of the centrepieces of the new project.
It means Sierra is aware of the plans at Stamford Bridge better than most and says Chelsea’s aim is to be the ‘biggest in Europe’ sooner rather than later.
“The idea is to put Chelsea at the top, it is a risky bet,” he said.
“Everything is long term, so the intention with Chelsea is for it to be the biggest in Europe. Currently the club has a very young squad. It is a team for the future. They have to be very patient; we know that it is a 3-to-4-year project.”
Another of the players to be scooped up is Ecuadorian youngster Kendry Paez, a 16-year-old currently plying his trade with Independiente in his home country.
He’s very much considered a star of the future and Chelsea moved quickly to secure his signature; despite the fact he can’t play for them for several years to come.
It means the youngster is continuing to develop his game in his homeland, but Sierra says there is a plan to get him to London soon.
“We hope for a break so that he can go visit Chelsea,” he added.
“The intention is that once the final with IDV has been played he will travel and do some training with Chelsea, as FIFA allows.
“With Kendry there is a signed transfer contract. And in July 2025, when the transfer window opens, he will arrive at Chelsea. There are no termination clauses when there are contracts. So many years and so much money. Neither Moi nor Kendry has a clause.
“The transaction for Kendry was £12m. It would not change anything in terms of injuries, if that were the case, nothing would happen in the transaction.”
