On October 1st, Rangers parted ways with Michael Beale and haven’t yet appointed his successor at Ibrox.
For the past few days, claims from Belgium have talked about Philippe Clement as an option for Rangers. On Monday, journalist Sacha Tavolieri stated the 49-year-old was holding talks with the Ibrox club.
Clement is now the ‘top candidate’ to become Beale’s replacement at Rangers, according to Het Nieuwsblad.
The Belgian has been without a job since leaving AS Monaco in the summer and has several clubs to pick his next destination, with Rangers being a ‘very concrete’ option.
It’s claimed Rangers have made a ‘concrete proposal’ to Clement who is in ‘pole position’ to become the new manager at Ibrox.
Het Nieuwsblad make it clear this is their own information and state that Clement hasn’t made a final decision but it’ll be made ‘soon’.
The manager had refused an opportunity to move to Saudi Arabia in the summer but an option move to the Middle East was still on the table in recent days. The outlet explains that the Rangers managerial target held talks with Al-Shabab FC last week.
Prior to his spell at Monaco, Clement managed Belgian sides Waasland-Beveren, Genk and Club Brugge.
