Jarrad Branthwaite’s decision to sign a new long-term contract at Everton has caused a ‘PSV downer’ as they had hoped to sign him again.
That’s according to Soccer News in the Netherlands, who cover the player today after Everton announced his new contract had been signed.
They explain that Branthwaite ‘made quite an impression’ while on loan with PSV from Everton last season, so much so that they tried to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer.
PSV replaced him with the loan signing of Armel Bella-Kotchap from Southampton, but hope had remained that they could tempt Branthwaite back to the Netherlands at some point.
That idea should be completely dead at this point, though, with the announcement of his new deal meaning he won’t be available to them ‘for the time being’.
The new deal is a ‘downer’ for the Dutch club, who it seems were still harbouring dreams of getting Branthwaite back but have had them dashed today.
Whether there’s an opportunity down the line remains to be seen, although if the defender carries on where he’s started at Everton, that seems very unlikely to happen.
