Union Saint-Gilloise will not be travelling to Liverpool tonight to simply be tourists, even if it is a major moment for the Belgian club.

That’s according to CEO Philippe Bormans, who admits there is a risk of their players being starstruck on their big night at Anfield.

Liverpool host Union SG this evening in the second matchday of Group E in the Europa League, in a game that has been billed as one of Union’s biggest in their history.

Voetbalkrant explain that as soon as the draw was made, the Belgian side had been ‘looking forward’ to the game as playing at Anfield is something Belgian side’s won’t experience every season.

There’s also the family matter, with Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister set to take on his brother Kevin Mac Allister.

The danger for the Belgian side is that they are overawed by the situation, and it shows on the pitch, handing Liverpool even more of an advantage than they already have.

Bormans is certainly concerned about that happening but believes his side won’t travel to Merseyside and just play the role of tourists.

“You have to be realistic about that,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws.

“Even though anything is possible in football. But the difference in budget and other things is big.

“We don’t go to Liverpool to act like tourists and look at the stands. We want to play our game, play football like everyone has come to know about the Union.

“Is there a risk that the players will be ‘starstruck’? That is there, even though I think they actually deal with it soberly. By the way, I hope they enjoy it tomorrow.”
