Moisés Caicedo was one of the new players to arrive at Chelsea in the last window and the west London club invested big to acquire his services from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Liverpool showed interest in the midfielder and even made an offer but the Blues were successful in overcoming competition from the Reds.

Tuttosport interviewed Caicedo’s agent Ali Barat, and he has hailed Chelsea for making a big investment to secure the 21-year-old’s services.

“I think Chelsea have made a great investment. In all senses. Moisés has signed a five-year contract [Caicedo actually signed a eight-year deal at Chelsea] and has gone from a salary of £60,000 a week to his current salary of £150,000,” he said.

The Ecuador international first arrived in England when the Seagulls signed him from Independiente del Valle in 2021. After initially struggling at The Amex, he was sent out on loan to Belgian side Beerschot during the first half of the 2021/22 season.

Barat has expressed his delight over his client’s development at Brighton since the start of last year.

“After returning to Brighton in January 2022 following his loan to Beerschot, he grew under the guidance of Potter and then finally exploded under the orders of De Zerbi,” Barat explained.

“He’s a pure talent who blossomed at Independiente del Valle, half an hour from Quito. A mix between Kanté and Bellingham: the Frenchman’s running and the Englishman’s technique. An explosive ‘cocktail’. And to think that the beginnings in Great Britain and Belgium were very hard for him, caused problems with settling in, with language, with adaptation.”

There have been claims that Manuel Sierra was the agent who handled Caicedo’s move to Chelsea and Tuttosport asked Barat to provide more clarity on this.

Responding to that, he said: “Sure with pleasure. Manuel is simply my partner in our South American branch. My goal is to open other branches around the world.”

Caicedo has made six appearances for Chelsea this season and his last outing was in his side’s 1-0 win against Brighton in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.
