Real Betis believe there is a growing chance they can get Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham in the January transfer window, after laying the groundwork for a deal in the summer.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the Spanish side are keeping a close eye on the Argentine and the possibility of getting him back to the club where he once shined.
Estadio state that Betis ‘did their job’ at the start of the summer in regard to Lo Celso, contacting the Tottenham man’s agent, expressing a desire for him to return and making it clear what they could offer.
They then sat back and ‘waited for the end of the market’ for circumstances to work in their favour and present the Tottenham man to them.
However, it was soon made clear that getting Lo Celso would not be easy as new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou wanted to take a look at all the players he had inherited before deciding their futures.
That means Lo Celso remained with Spurs, where he has barely featured despite an apparent desire from Postecoglou to have him and use him.
The midfielder is playing a ‘superficial’ role at best and, with Felix shining at Barcelona, the belief is that ‘Betis’ options grow’ to finally get their man.
The Spanish side ‘will always be open’ to the player and there have even been various reports in England stating that the option will be there in January.
This is backed up by Argentina’s Ole, who have a short paragraph on the midfielder and say that ‘Betis wants him’ in January. They state Manuel Pellegrini and co fear losing midfielder Guido Rodriguez, and Lo Celso would be an option to replace him, valued at €15m.
At the moment, according to Estadio, they are yet to make this move and the feeling is that now is not the moment to do so either as the club are focused on other issues.
But, if things remain as they are then that will change the closer we get to January, when it’s likely you’ll be hearing plenty about Lo Celso leaving Tottenham and returning to Betis, again.
