Weston McKennie’s loan move to Leeds United last season was not something that Juventus manager Max Allegri wanted.
That’s according to Il Bianconero, who say the Italian manager was ‘perplexed’ by the deal and ‘didn’t like’ that it went through.
McKennie spent the second half of last season on loan at Leeds after it was made clear he was not a part of Juventus’ plans moving forwards.
His six months at Elland Road proved to be something of a miserable one, though, with him struggling to shine in the Premier League and eventually suffering relegation to the Championship.
That’s raised questions as to why he was allowed to join Leeds last year and Il Bianconero report that it might have been done without Allegri’s wishes.
According to them, he ‘didn’t like’ the idea of the transfer and was left ‘perplexed’ that the American ended up at Elland Road.
It seems he would have been more than happy to keep McKennie and the role he’s handed the American at the beginning of this season demonstrates that.
The one positive is that McKennie’s loan spell has at least offered him ‘new experiences’ and ‘growth opportunities’, which may have actually aided his return to Juventus after all.
Those are lessons he seems to be applying, although it appears that if Allegri had his way, the move to Leeds wouldn’t have gone through at all.
