Argentine newspaper Clarín featured this week a quite interesting conversation with Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
The South American country is still excited by their World Cup win last year, and with the 24-year-old being part of the squad, most of the interview was about the national team.
There was also some time to talk about Liverpool, though, and Clarin wanted to know more about Anfield’s atmosphere. Mac Allister still hasn’t had many chances to play at the ground as a home player, but could already feel the big support from fans.
“It’s incredible. The truth is that it is difficult to explain, but I invite all people, if one day they have the opportunity to go, to do so,” Mac Allister told Clarin.
“As you say, that preview, You’ll Never Walk Alone, is something very impressive. I still had to play twice, nothing more, it’s not much. But both times I wanted to take my time and I started to listen and look a little at all the fans and everything that is generated. It’s incredible. The truth is that I have enjoyed it a lot, beyond perhaps the fact that I can enjoy it for many years.”
“Yes, I think there is something that can unite them and it is obviously the passion with which the game is lived. Afterwards, I think they are two quite different atmospheres due to the way we encourage our team. We in Argentina are very used to singing a lot, creating songs.
“Maybe here in England they are not so used to it, maybe it is a little more the shouting and the emotion and how it is carried forward. But without a doubt they are two very beautiful atmospheres. But I think there is a point of comparison and it is the passion with which football is lived and with which they support the team.”
Since his €42m move from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer, Mac Allister featured in all of Liverpool’s matches. He’s only played at Anfield against Bournemouth and Aston Villa, though, and after tomorrow’s game against Lask, he’ll be facing West Ham at home.
