Player snubbing Leeds seen as club’s ‘most important’ piece of business – More important than ‘everyone thinks’

Towards the end of the transfer window, Leeds United, looking to bolster their attack, decided to try and sign Joseph Paintsil.

The KRC Genk winger was the subject of a bid of around €10m, and while that might have been tempting for the Belgian side, it wasn’t for the forward.

He turned down the chance to move to Leeds, and, according to Johan Walckiers for Voetbalkrant, it might be the best thing that happened to the Jupiler Pro League club this season.

Commenting on the Ghana international’s performances to date this season, which include a goal and three assists in 10 appearances in all competitions, the journalist explains that snubbing the Elland Road side is perhaps ‘the most important transfer’ pulled off by Genk.

It’s recalled how the winger himself ‘pulled the plug’ on a deal taking him to Leeds, and the belief is he ‘may be more important than everyone thinks’ at the club.

He points out that his can ‘make the difference at any time’ with his speed on the pitch, which is exactly why Leeds United and Daniel Farke will have wanted him in the first place.

His last assist came against Union Sainte-Gilloise this weekend in his 58 minutes on the pitch, as he set up former Brighton striker Andi Zeqiri for the first in a 2-0 away win.
