For the past three days, there’s been repeat coverage of Manchester United’s Hannibal Mejbri supposedly mocking Liverpool star Mohamed Salah’s in Tunisia’s friendly win over Egypt.
The incident took place when Leece’s Hamza Rafia scored in injury time to help Tunisia seal a 3-1 win over the Pharaohs in Cairo.
This resulted in wild celebrations from the visitors as the Manchester United youngster and his compatriots were seen mimicking the Liverpool forward’s yoga pose celebration, when Salah was still on the pitch.
There’s been suggestions Tunisia’s celebration was led by the 20-year-old midfielder but this has now been dismissed by FC Copenhagen’s Mohamed Elias Achouri, during an interview with Tipsbladet.
“You have to know that it wasn’t Hannibal who started it. It was Hamza Rafia who scored the goal,” he said.
“He did that cheering scene, but because Hannibal did the same thing, people think he did it because he plays for Manchester United and has something going on with Salah for that reason. But it wasn’t quite like that, as it was Rafia who did it, and he plays in Serie A. He doesn’t care a bit about Liverpool.”
Elias Achouri has made it clear the Tunisia players have nothing against Salah and also believes the saga has been blown up by the media, partly due to the rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool.
“I don’t think it was anything special against Mohamed Salah. It may be the media that drives it up. They sometimes want something to write about, so maybe they have used it,” Elias Achouri explained.
