Goalkeeper Vicente Guaita has revealed just how difficult Crystal Palace made his departure from the club this summer.
The Spanish goalkeeper has been speaking to AS after he left Palace on a free transfer late in the summer window to return to Spain with Celta Vigo.
He had made it clear throughout the summer that he wanted to leave and bring an end to his time at Selhurst Park, even refusing to play at one point, much to the annoyance of Crystal palace manager Roy Hodgson.
The Eagles were not so keen to see him leave, though, and initially refused to sanction a deal for the veteran despite him making it clear he wanted out.
Guaita has since signed with Celta Vigo and aired his frustrations at how things transpired, revealing that Crystal Palace made things difficult for him and his new club.
He’s now detailed how they did that, explaining that they refused to send his papers until very late in the transfer window.
“They were difficult moments, we didn’t know if I was going to sign with Celta in the end,” he said.
“We had been trying to leave Crystal Palace for weeks, where they only saw the option of renewing and I only wanted to return to Spain since Celta contacted me.
“Everything was easy between us, the only problem was with our old team. At the last minute, at just ten o’clock they sent the papers, and I was able to sign with Celta. We are here to help.”
