With every day that passes, there is someone new in Belgium talking about Youri Tielemans and his situation at Aston Villa.
The latest is Philippe Albert, who was asked a number of questions about the current Belgium team by RTBF, with them deciding to focus on the midfielder for a bit.
It’s no secret that the free signing, who arrived at Aston Villa after his contract at Leicester ran down, hasn’t had the best start to the season, starting just the one game in the Conference League in an almost meaningless game against Hibernian.
The rest of the time as seen the Belgian come off the bench, which hasn’t pleased him, as he voiced his frustration almost immediately after landing in his home country.
He said: “If he plays a step higher, offensively, he will have to run less. With his shooting, he could cause damage. He has undeniable qualities. He simply needs to play one match after another. His lack of minutes is glaring. You can feel it. He’s not part of Unai Emery’s plans at Aston Villa, and training will never replace the tempo of a real match.”
Tielemans started the last game against Azerbaijan, showing Tedesco’s faith in the player, as the German manager also jumped to the 26-year-old’s defence in a press conference on Monday.
Next up for Belgium is a Euros qualifier against Estonia on Tuesday evening, which they will want to win to improve their chances of making it to the tournament, currently sitting top of the table on goal difference ahead of Austria, who also have 10 points from their first four games.
