Tottenham defender Cuti Romero has been hailed in Argentina as ‘He-Man’, with his performance against Ecuador labelled a ‘breakthrough match’ for him.

TyC Sport cover the defender today, explaining how he has become a ‘fundamental pillar’ for Argentina and demonstrated that with his latest display.

“You can’t say much about the game he played on the contrary. I think that on top of that, with the people who carry him around, he thinks he’s He-Man, and of course, he’s impressive,” manager Lionel Scaloni stated after the game, providing a new nickname for the Tottenham star ‘that fits’.

The outlet explain he is a defender who has the ‘personality of those phenomena of the 70’s and 80s’ but the ‘intelligence’ that modern football demands.

They say that, just like He-Man, who won his battles with his head rather than his strength, Romero does the same, ensuring he is ‘well positioned’ so he can win battles with timing. This is something he has mastered to ‘perfection’, largely because he is currently ‘overflowing with confidence’.

“He is an incredible centre-back. Sometimes you have to save some trips because of course, 50 or 60 metres running is not good, especially because you get tired and leave the team in a bad position. But hey, the game he played is incredible… I’d rather him do that than let himself be. He was very complete,” added Scaloni.

His sentiments were shared on social media, where the likes of Dibu Martinez, Alexis MacAllister and Enzo Fernandez were all keen to praise him.

So good was his performance, according to TyC, he will be returning to Tottenham ‘overweight’ as he will be carrying striker Enner Valencia in his back pocket.

It was a display that ‘will not be forgotten in a lifetime’, with a new nickname more than truly earned and 85,000 people, Argentina’s players and staff included, seemingly witnessing the birth of a new star.
