Manchester United ‘inquired’ about a move for Villarreal defender Alfonso Pedraza as their hunt for a new left-back continues.
That’s according to Marca, who say Manchester United found Villarreal in no mood to discuss a deal and quickly moved on.
Pedraza has some experience of English football, having played for Leeds United in 2017. Following his exit from Elland Road and return to Spain, he was expected to shine, even being linked with the likes of Real Madrid, and has had a steady progression.
Manchester United are on the hunt for a new left back before the end of the window on Friday after injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have left them short in the position.
Marca explain that he has established himself as one of the most complete footballers in La Liga, with a series of impressive performances offensively and defensively.
Manchester United ‘inquired’ about a move, with the Villarreal man ‘among the first targets’ they went for in their search for a new left-back.
However, Villarreal ‘did not want to negotiate’ for a player they consider one of the pillars of their team, particularly as Manchester United were only considering signing him on loan.
That wasn’t appealing to the Spanish side, and they seemingly closed negotiations before they started, leaving Manchester United to look elsewhere for their emergency left-back signing.
They’ve now ‘moved’ to sign Marc Cucurella from Chelsea and appear to be close to wrapping up that deal instead.
