At the weekend, we covered claims from Belgium that Leeds United made an offer of €8m plus €2m bonuses to sign KRC Genk star Joseph Paintsil.
On Monday, Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna stated the Whites had agreed a deal with KRC Genk for the transfer and also with the Ghana international for personal terms.
He also said the loyalty bonus which the 25-year-old is expecting from Genk was holding up Paintsil’s potential move to Leeds.
Ghana Soccernet make no mention of that loyalty bonus but explain why the winger won’t end up at Leeds before the window closes on Friday.
It’s claimed the deal to take the player to Elland Road has collapsed after the negotiations between Daniel Farke’s side and the Jupiler Pro League side ‘reached an impasse’.
They further add the terms of the deal proposed by the Championship side to both the Belgian club and the player ‘fell short of expectations’.
Therefore, Paintsil’s move to Leeds has collapsed and Ghana Soccernet add Southampton have now swiftly entered the race to sign him.
Paintsil managed 18 goals and 14 assists from 39 games last season, and has a goal and two assists from eight games this season.
