Chelsea outcast Romelu Lukaku could become a late option for Roma this summer as Tiago Pinto tries to secure a striker for Jose Mourinho.
That’s according to Il Messaggero, relayed by Voce Giallorossa, who say the Belgian may be a ‘last-minute idea’ that the Italian club end up exploring.
The newspaper explains that Roma owners the Friedkins have ‘made an important coup’ in every window so far and they remain determined to do so this year.
Lukaku could be the man they target in that regard, particularly as a potential move to Juventus, in a swap deal involving Chelsea getting Dusan Vlahovic, looks unlikely to come to fruition.
The belief is that is he were to remain at Chelsea in the dying days of the window, which is a distinct possibility at this moment in time given the Juventus option appears to be disappearing, Roma ‘could think about’ making their move for him.
Reports in Italy yesterday indicated that they had already in touch with Chelsea regarding a possible move, asking about a loan deal. The Blues rejected that, though, as they want to sell Lukaku outright and nothing else.
Whether Roma’s finances, which are notoriously tight, would allow them to do so isn’t mentioned but perhaps the idea is to wait until the end of the window when Chelsea will be really desperate and then get themselves a better deal.
