If you’re a Brentford fan, it may be time to rejoice as the long-running, drawn out Sergi Canós to Valencia transfer may finally be coming to an end.
That’s according to AS, who say negotiations are back underway between the two teams over the player and there ‘should be white smoke soon’ on the matter.
We covered a report yesterday stating that Valencia needed to move quickly to get Canós, who has been linked all summer and indeed been turning down other offers to ensure he ends up at the Mestalla.
The deal was being blocked by Valencia owner Peter Lim, who didn’t want to match Brentford’s demands and finalise the process.
That had left an opportunity for other clubs to move as Canós grew frustrated and there was a belief Valencia could miss out if they didn’t move quickly.
That deal will leave them with a ‘free hand’ to sign Canós and the Spanish club ‘have resumed negotiations’ with Brentford to make that happen.
The Bees continue to ask for €250,000 for the player, a figure Valencia can now pay as they’re receiving €2m from the sale of Racic. His departure also reduces the salary burden on the squad, one of the conditions Lim had set before sanctioning a move for Canós.
He’s given his okay to the deal either way and all sources consulted have now told AS that negotiations have been resumed from where they were two weeks ago.
The various parties now intend to ‘close it as soon as possible’ despite Valencia continuing to work on Brentford and try to bring down the sum they’ll end up paying.
Canós is ‘playing his part’ and seemingly reducing his demands, so that potential problem is already sorted and as long as Lim doesn’t change his mind, ‘there should be white smoke soon’.
