Player ‘does not accept’ transfer to Brighton right now – Seagulls have had two bids rejected

Earlier today, various takes emerged about Brighton wanting to sign Valentin Barco from Boca Juniors.

It was said the club were ready to trigger the player’s $10m release clause, which would see them bypass negotiations with the club and directly talk to the player.

However, TyC Sports reveal a bit later that Barco isn’t overly keen on joining Brighton right now, which would be a blow for the Seagulls.

Brighton kicked off their bidding with $8m and 20% of a future fee, which was rejected, before another bid of $9m and 10% of a future fee was also turned down.

That’s when the Premier League side decided enough was enough and were going to ‘execute the clause that is $10m’.

This would take the matter out of Boca’s hands, but ‘the good news for Xeneize is that for now, Barco does not accept’.

The reason for that is the left-back wants to stay and ‘finish playing the Copa Libertadores’ with his club, as they have the quarter finals of the competition on August 23rd and 30th.

Boca, down their end, have been thinking about giving him a new contract and increasing his release clause, which they could do if he doesn’t leave.

It seems that their best chance of getting that done is to ensure they move onto the next round of the competition, as that would take it beyond the end of the European transfer window.
