French newspaper L’Equipe show off the country’s squad options for World Cup 2018 in their Monday edition. France have an excellent generation of players and there’s tough competition to make the squad for a tournament France look good to qualify for.
Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko wasn’t in the current France selection, despite being a favourite of national manager Didier Deschamps. Last season Sissoko not playing well for Newcastle United side who were relegated wasn’t enough to kill his chances and Deschamps picked the midfielder for Euro 2016, and wasn’t let down.
It was on the back of those France performances that Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino made their move, but the transfer hasn’t gone well and Sissoko leaving Spurs is an increasingly likely scenario.
L’Equipe give Sissoko a 50/50 chance of making it to Russia 2018, which seems generous and is undoubtedly based on Dsechamps counting on the player previously. Unless Sissoko changes his application and manages to change Pochettino’s assessment of him, then to stand any chance a summer transfer would need to materialise.
On a brighter note, L’Equipe say Hugo Lloris has a 100% chance of being in the squad.
