Everton’s new signing Youssef Chermiti may not have had many games for Sporting’s first team, but the club are clearly sad to let him go.

With the Toffees and Lions today announcing his transfer to Goodison Park, the Portuguese club now released a long interview about his farewell.

In quotes relayed by Record, Chermiti first talked about the transfer to Everton and how much he’ll miss Sporting.

“I will always miss my home. Sporting will always be a place that I will have in my heart, it gave me everything. If it weren’t for Sporting, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to go where I’m going, I’ll always be grateful.”

The Everton forward was then asked about his dreams, and the move seems to have encouraged him to think big.

“Playing in the Premier League, which I’m about to do. Working to win individual awards, winning the Champions League and, of course, making my debut for the national team. Representing the country where we were born is very rewarding.”

According to reports from Portugal, Everton are paying €12.5m to sign Chermiti. The agreement includes another €2.5m in performance bonuses, and Sporting are set to keep 12.5% of a future sale.

The striker spent many years with the Lions’ academy, and was officially promoted to the first team in January. He made 22 appearances for the club, with three goals and two assists.

Sporting saw big potential in him, but as it was unlikely he’d get a lot of playing time this season, they decided to guarantee the money with the sale.
