Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has thanked his international teammates following Sweden’s game with Belarus at the weekend. The 25-year-old started the game against Belarus in the absence of the injured Victor Lindelof.
Jansson also praised his Swedish colleagues for helping him settle into the World Cup Qualifier, which he said was made easier by the start he made.
“Of course it becomes easier then. The national team has a great generation, but has become easier to get into. They helped me get into it. I got a good start and then it became easy to play,” said Jansson.
Jansson has started Sweden’s last two games, and he will be hoping Lindelof’s injury will allow him to play against Portugal tomorrow. Jansson helped Sweden keep a clean sheet in the 4-0 win over Belarus, and will be confident he can retain his place.
However, the Leeds United player has a tough task cementing a place in Janne Andersson’s starting eleven because of the partnership of Lindelof and Andreas Granqvist. Despite this with Granqvist now 37 years old, Jansson and Lindelof could be seen as Sweden’s future central defence partnership.
