Despite seemingly scoring every game or so for Everton, Romelu Lukaku isn’t exactly in the good books at the club after turning down a new contract offer and admitting publicly he probably needed to move to find a club that could fulfil his ambitions.
Asked about it by RTBF on Friday following the daily training session with his national teammates, the Toffees striker tried to keep his answer as professional as possible.
He said: “I need to finish the season well with my club and we’ll see about my next step after that. I work really hard. I want to win as many trophies as possible. That’s why I play football. I don’t play to score 500 goals and win zero titles.
“Being the best number nine in the world is a great goal, but you must work for that and always try and go up a level. The best challenge in football is to know that there’s someone better than you and trying to overtake them.”
While these words will do nothing to reassure Everton fans, at least Lukaku remains consistent in what he wants, and open about his goals as a player.
The Belgium international has scored 22 goals in 30 appearances for Ronald Koeman’s side this season, as well as helping out teammates with seven assists.
