Defender Michal Karbownik completed a rapid exit from Brighton and Hove Albion last night, undergoing medicals and contract negotiations in one evening before sealing his departure this morning.
That’s according to BILD, who provide background information on the transfer after Hertha Berlin announced the player earlier today.
The newspaper explains that Karbownik has been in Berlin for a few days and has now signed a contract with Hertha until 2026.
“Hertha BSC tried very hard to get me in the talks right from the start,” he is quoted as saying.
According to their information, Karbownik had been keen on a move to Berlin for weeks after travelling to the club earlier this summer. He was ‘enthusiastic’ about a switch to the capital following those talks.
The defender had returned to Brighton following a loan spell at Fortuna Düsseldorf last season but was not part of their plans moving forward and so was free to leave.
He’ll now be continuing his career in Berlin, with Hertha moving quickly overnight to seal the deal. BILD report that a medical check and then contract negotiations were all done on Monday evening before the player signed his contract this morning.
It was a deal done in rapid fashion and seemingly in complete secrecy, a credit to Hertha and Brighton given some of the long, drawn-out sagas we’ve already dealt with this summer.
