Sporting Clube de Portugal ‘cannot do much’ to stop striker Chermiti from joining Everton this summer as the Toffees can ‘offer’ him something they cannot.
That’s according to A Bola, specifically journalist Vítor Serpa, who cover the player’s impending move to Goodison Park and why the Portuguese side couldn’t resist it.
He explains that Sporting ‘accepted an easy understanding’ in the deal with Everton for Chermiti, pointing to a €15m deal with the usual bonuses involved and quickly wrapping up negotiations as a result.
They have ‘opened the doors’ for him to leave, despite the fact they think highly of him and believe he could be an interesting player on an international level in the years to come.
On a pure business level, the deal is ‘hard to understand’ as the value involved are relatively low compared to how high they could be in a few years. Indeed, the newspaper seems to believe Chermiti could be worth a lot more ‘in a relatively short’ amount of time.
Furthermore, he is a striker who knows where the goal is, is over six feet tall and despite that, fast and versatile. In other words, he has everything you might want.
He’s the type of player welcome in any squad but the reality is that Everton can offer a young man like Chermiti what Sporting will never be able to afford. As a result, both he and his representative, who is also his father, stopped thinking about Portugal and only about the Premier League.
A deal is now close to being completed and it seems Everton fans should be excited about. Contrary to some reports, Chermiti is well thought of at Sporting and if the Blues hadn’t come along, they’d have been happy to keep him.
Instead, they have used their resources and Premier League pulling power to lure him to Goodison Park instead.
