Brentford exit ‘remains at standstill’ because of owner – ‘Could authorise’ payment, seemingly won’t

Valencia’s long, drawn out pursuit of Brentford midfielder Sergi Canós is now being held up by the Spanish club’s owner Peter Lim.

That’s according to Las Provincias, who cover the transfer today and say the footballer is still waiting in his hometown of Nules to close his deal.

They explain that Valencia are continuing to work on the transfer market, but everything is being done in slow motion.

Canós has been targeted for weeks but the deal ‘remains at a standstill’ despite an agreement with the player being ‘complete’.

Valencia have offered him a salary of around €2m gross and the player is ‘looking forward’ to putting on the black and white shirt and playing at the Mestalla. He is even not participating in pre-season with Brentford.

They’re still claiming a transfer fee of €500,000, but Valencia are still only offering a free transfer with bonuses and a percentage of a future sale. That’s something Brentford are yet to accept.

They seemingly expect Valencia to pay and Las Provincias say they can do so, particularly after releasing Edinson Cavani from his contract. The sale of Yunus Musah would also help on that front.

The problem is Peter Lim, who ‘could authorise’ the payment to Brentford but for now does not seem to ‘have the intention’ of giving the go-ahead from Singapore.

Thus, everything remains locked in place and going nowhere in what must now be the dullest transfer saga of the summer window.
