English media reports of Everton being interested in Cedric Bakambu have unsurprisingly made their way to Spain, and whilst there’s been no attempt to rubbish the Premier League club’s chances of a deal, there does seem at least a little surprise at the interest.
Marca don’t doubt that Bakambu is talented, but it’d be asking a lot for him to replace Romelu Lukaku, which they believe would be the plan.
This season Bakambu has scored four goals. He’s only started 13 matches, but come on as a substitute in 10 more. He only got on the pitch once during the African Cup of Nations for DR Congo, and didn’t manage to find the back of the net.
He’s not a young hot shot coming through either, turning 26 years of age next month.
Should Everton sell Lukaku in the summer then they’ll have to present the club’s fans with a replacement that’s rather more exciting. Ronald Koeman may also be looking for some back-up, and Bakambu would be more suitable then, but surely Everton would only have an interest if he regains his goalscoring touch.
