Genk director of football Dimitri De Condé has insisted any move to bring Paul Onuachu back to the club from Southampton is a complicated one for the Belgian side to pull off.
He’s been speaking to Het Belang van Limburg regarding the transfer situation at the club and the ongoing reports that Onuachu could be on his way back.
The striker left Genk for Southampton in the January transfer window after a four-year spell at the club in which he managed 85 goals and ten assists in 134 games.
His time at Saint Mary’s has been nothing short of a disaster, with him managing just 11 appearances and 404 minutes of action last season without scoring a goal or registering an assist.
For that to happen, though, Genk will need to work out a deal with Southampton, something their director of football insists is no simple matter.
“If we want a player with such market value from an English club, we will never be in control there. Only when the player and the club leave an opening can we take action,” he said.
“It has to be someone who has already scored his goals at a certain level. If you exclude exceptions such as Haaland, you quickly end up with players of at least 23 years old.”
