Club send clear message to Liverpool after Reds’ first offer – Optimism is there, everyone wants ‘right deal’

Southampton have presented a ‘counter-offer’ to Liverpool after rejecting the Reds initial offer for Romeo Lavia.

That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who say Liverpool’s initial €35m bid for the Belgian midfielder is not enough to convince Southampton into a sale.

He reports that Liverpool made their first bid for the highly rated midfielder this morning as they plan for life without Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, who both appear to be on their way to Saudi Arabia.

A €35m bid has been submitted but was met with an immediate rejection by Southampton and then ‘counter-offer’ by their board of directors.

The nature of that counter-offer isn’t made clear, but the conversations are described as open as everyone involved wants to find the ‘right deal’ for the player.

That suggests Southampton are more than happy to discuss a deal and get those negotiations over the line as soon as possible.

Tavolieri adds that Liverpool want to close the transfer at around €40m, so with just €5m separating the two clubs, it seems that there is every possibility Lavia will end up at Anfield this summer.
