At the weekend, AS stated Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is Atlético Madrid’s main objective to bolster their midfield, as Diego Simeone sees him as an ideal target.
Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat’s name was also put on the table during the latest meeting between Simeone, Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín and their sporting director, Andrea Berta.
That’s according to Marca, who add the three officials discussed the Tottenham player, Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti and Real Sociedad star Martín Zubimendi.
It’s claimed Amrabat is pushing for a move to the Metropolitano while a deal for Verratti is difficult because of his very high salary. In addition to this, Zubimendi has a €60m release clause.
Taking these conditions into account, Højbjerg seems a better fit for Atlético. The report states Los Rojiblancos are ‘well placed’ to sign the Denmark international in this window.
That’s because Ange Postecoglou’s side want to sell the 27-year-old, and a good relationship between the two clubs due to the deals for Sergio Reguilón and Matt Doherty
Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilón was on loan in Madrid last season while Spurs terminated Doherty contract earlier this year, which allowed him to join Los Rojiblancos for free in January.
Marca don’t specify the fee needed to please Spurs.
