Napoli are eyeing a move for Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso this summer, who was also a target for them last summer.

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who say the Italian side have ‘got closer’ to a potential deal for him.

The newspaper explains that Napoli have ‘turned the light back on’ following their interest in a potential deal last summer and ‘reconnected the contacts’ with Tottenham despite the costs involved in the deal.

One major stumbling block is the midfielder’s salary, which would be worth €4.3m net on a deal until 2025, although Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentis appears to be open to paying it.

The club see him as a perfect addition to the squad as he can play in various roles in midfield and could find himself a role inside new manager Rudi Garcia’s system.

The Serie A champions are eyeing up a loan deal, which they’ve done in the past, which would include an option to buy.

Indeed, they would be looking for a deal similar to the one they negotiated with Tottenham for Tanguy Ndombele last summer, although there are other suitors for him.

It’s a deal to be worked on but the idea is there nonetheless, with the interest from last summer not having diminished.
