Santos winger Ângelo is set to link up with Chelsea in the United States for their pre-season tour on Sunday night.
That’s according to A Tribuna, who say Chelsea will pay €15m for the player and then include him as part of their American tour.
They explain that Santos will receive around 85% of that amount, with 70% belonging to the club and 15% owned by the player but passed over ‘in gratitude to the club’.
The outlet have found that the entire process involving documentation related to a US visa, contracts and medical examinations in São Paulo, where Chelsea doctors were present, was concluded on Thursday.
The winger has had his bags packed since last Sunday in anticipation of the move, although he will travel to the US on his own initially.
His family will then join him in England after that, something his father has confirmed in comments to A Tribuna.
“It’s an enormous happiness without explanation, but with a bit of a heavy heart,” he said.
“My wife and Idene Dias Damasceno, the attacker’s mother, will be with him for at least the first six months, until he adapts to the climate, which is completely different.
“It’s another country, another language, morals. It helps a lot to have two Brazilians on the team.”
Whether Chelsea will have Ângelo as part of the first-team squad next season or send him out on loan remains to be seen.
Leaving him under Mauricio Pochettino’s leadership wouldn’t be a bad move given his history of developing young talent, but that will have to be weighed up against the benefits of a loan deal.
The decision will be perhaps made during pre-season, with Ângelo ready to join them the US this weekend.
