Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson believes playing under Garry Monk has made him mature as a person and a player. Monk signed Jansson from Torino last summer, and the Swede has turned out to be one of his best signings since being installed as Leeds United manager.
Speaking to Sydsvenskan, Jansson revealed Monk has made him more of a team player since he signed him for Leeds United. The 25-year-old said he never got this kind of guidance at previous clubs, but Monk has helped him. Jansson went on to say it’s also the whole team which has benefited from Monk being at Leeds United.
“He’s made me mature as a person and a player. He made me understand what being a team player is. In Italy, even in Malmö, it was very clear I was on my own, but with Garry, I have matured and I have learned an awful lot. I have much to thank him for. He cares about the good of the group. Everyone is equal,” said the Swede.
This isn’t the first time Jansson has praised the Leeds United boss after we covered recent comments he made to the Swedish media.
Jansson is clearly a fan of Monk, and explained Leeds’ summer recruitment, combined with Monk’s management, was making the difference: “I think we’re playing good football. Garry knows what he wants and he wants to play good football, but always with the focus on the defensive play first and how to play.
“He wants us to ‘find our game’ and we’re working a lot on that. People know we’re good now, so teams are gonna come and try to make it hard for us, so there are gonna be many hard matches.”
Monk and Jansson have both been excellent for Leeds United since arriving and fans will hope they can continue the same path next year… hopefully in the Premier League.
