Diego Llorente moved to AS Roma on loan in the winter market, and initially had a mixed time at the club.
Jose Mourinho had worked with the Leeds United player at Real Madrid early in the defender’s career and had clearly been left with a good impressed.
With the manager on his side, Llorente gradually grew in importance at the Serie A club, and was fortunate that other players became unavailable and left him space.
Roma have been working on a new deal with Leeds United for weeks, with Llorente always looking likely to leave Elland Road again this summer.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports there’s now ‘total agreement’ between the two clubs on another loan deal. However, this time there’s a purchase option which has the possibility to become compulsory.
Should the Spaniard appear in 50% of Roma’s matches in the coming season then the club will be forced to buy him for €5m.
Likely not as high a fee as Leeds United were looking for, but they’ll probably still hope he can make that 50%.
