With Alexis Mac Allister sold and the potential exit of Moises Caicedo, Brighton & Hove Albion are going to have to sign at least one new midfielder this summer.
They have been linked to numerous names, but La Provence in France add a new one on Monday, as they claim the Seagulls are interested in Valentin Rongier.
The Marseille star enjoyed a plentiful season under Igor Tudor, who has since left the club, and will have to wait and see what his role will be under new manager Marcelino.
The 28-year-old has a lot of experience and is extremely versatile, having been deployed all over the midfield throughout his career, and even a few times in the centre of defence.
He also captained the Ligue 1 side for most of the last campaign, which is why the French newspaper call him ‘a leader of the team’, who could participate in his fifth season since his arrival from Nantes.
At this moment in time, there is no indication that the Premier League side will make a move just yet, and it sounds as if Rongier is just one of the options Roberto de Zerbi is looking at.
Still, if Brighton do come forward, offering both top-tier English football and Europa League football, they could be a tempting option despite Marseille offering the Champions League (albeit through qualifiers for the time being).
