Former Sunderland and Middlesbrough midfielder Julio Arca has revealed he’s living a dream getting to the FA Vase final with South Shields. The Argentine had long spells with the two Premier League club, but never played at Wembley for either club.
Speaking to the BBC, the 36-year-old said he’s set to fulfil a lifelong ambition to play at Wembley after failing to do so with Sunderland and Middlesbrough. Arca believes South Shields deserves to this success because of the work the people at the club have put in.
“It’s a personal dream. We did it and everyone deserves it at the club – the manager, the players and the people behind us who worked really hard to have a quality ground,” said Arca.
Arca made his name at Sunderland, and played over 150 league games for the club in a six-year period. In 2006 the player move to Middlesbrough where he made nearly 200 league appearances, before leaving in 2013.
South Shields will meet Cleethorpes in the FA Vase final in May.
