Manchester United defender Victor Lindelöf has vowed to bounce back from a huge error in Sweden’s defeat to Austria.
The defender has been speaking to Aftonbladet about the 2-0 defeat to Austria in which he was very much culpable for the eventual scoreline.
Sweden had found themselves 1-0 down in the 81st minute after a goal from Christoph Baumgartner, a strike which led to them pushing for an equaliser.
That saw Lindelöf further up the pitch than he would usually be and that’s when disaster struck, with the Manchester United man dispossessed in midfield and Austria breaking to strike again and ‘kill the match’.
As you can imagine this did not go down well, particularly as the Manchester United man is his country’s captain and should be sending a better message, even after making such a big mistake.
That’s something he’s aware of and has vowed that there won’t be a repeat in future as Sweden battle to qualify for Euro 2024.
“Of course, I could have taken that run,” he said.
“I will definitely do better. It doesn’t matter if you make it or not, you always have to take the job. It happened but it’s not okay.
“We have to demand more from ourselves because it is not good enough. If we are to win matches, we must be able to play football and establish plays and make it difficult for the opponents.
“There was a little too much on chance today. We absolutely have to improve that because otherwise we won’t be able to play at a high level.”
