Earlier this month, we covered a story from Italy claiming that striker Cyriel Dessers was close to signing for Rangers to work under Michael Beale.

Calciomercato.it were the ones reporting the news at the time, and it was believed a deal of around €5m was going to be struck for the Cremonese forward to bring him to Ibrox.

Well, the same outlet has provided a new update on Rangers’ chase for the 28-year-old, who only signed from KRC Genk last August for €6.5m.

He scored seven goals in 29 appearances for the Serie A side, but Cremonese’s relegation back to Serie B meant an exit could be on the cards.

That’s why Rangers were looking to strike a deal, but Dessers has now turned down the chance to head to Scotland.

Calciomercato.it claim the player has ‘said no’ to Rangers, as he would ‘prefer to stay in Italy’ for the time being, clearly at home in his new country.

Where he would head isn’t stated, but it won’t be to Ibrox.
