Brighton and Newcastle keen to sign same player – De Zerbi’s side ‘in pole’, €15m needed

São Paulo’s Lucas Beraldo has emerged as a target for Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United and Udinese, according to a report from Italy.

Last month, claims from Brazil stated the Magpies had planned to watch the 19-year-old in action for São Paulo. They are now showing interest in him.

That’s according to Tutto Udinese, who state Newcastle, along with Brighton and the Serie A side, are all interested in the defender.

Udinese like the centre-back and the report says they’ve only asked for information about him. They’ll face competition from the two Premier League sides to secure his services this summer.

Beraldo can be a good market opportunity for these clubs. Despite this, it’s difficult for the Italian side to carry out his signing because São Paulo president Julio Casares has told the player’s agent that he needs €15m to sanction the sale.

At the moment, Roberto De Zerbi’s side are ‘on pole’ to land Beraldo, by offering €6m to the South American club. The latter don’t have any intention of lowering their demands at this stage.

Both the Seagulls’ bid and São Paulo’s request was reported by Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola on Sunday.

With Brighton ‘on pole’, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle will convert their interest into an offer to sign Beraldo.
