If you’ve been keeping up with Aston Villa’s pursuit of Sevilla director of football Monchi over the last week or so, you’ll know it’s a mess.
The Spaniard has been in, out and shaking it all about over the last few days as he seemingly tries to get out of Sevilla and make his way to Villa Park as soon as possible.
The last reports indicated that Aston Villa had sent a delegation to Spain to try and work things out with Sevilla and now Vamos Mi Sevilla and Cadena SER provide two different updates on what’s going on.
Instead, it’s now claimed that Aston Villa ‘could reverse’ their desire to sign the director of football and give up on him.
They don’t want to pay the full clause for him and the difficulties they are encountering to get him out of Sevilla, who are proving resistant and refusing to make it easy, are making them think twice about the effort needed.
That’s all very negative for Aston Villa but journalist José Antonio Sánchez Araújo, who is something of a journalistic icon in Seville, has a more positive take on the matter.
“I think Monchi is living his last hours as sports director of Sevilla,” he said.
“The decision has been made and it would be strange for him to take a step back now. I think Monchi’s hours are numbered at Sevilla Fútbol Club.”
