Villarreal forward Samu Chukwueze could be set for a move to Real Madrid this summer, after missing out on a switch to Everton last summer.
That’s according to AS, who say the Spanish giants are interested in the forward as he enters the final year of his deal at Villarreal.
They explain that after a summer of change in Madrid’s forward line, with Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio, Eden Hazard and Mariano Diaz all departing, there will be an effort to sign players for Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
Players such as Harry Kane and Kai Havertz are the priorities at this point, but they have also asked about Chukwueze’s situation at Villarreal.
One of his best performances was an ‘exhibition’ at the Bernabeu a couple of months ago and did not go unnoticed with those in charge at the club.
They’ve now asked about his situation ahead of a possible move, knowing that they won’t need to go anywhere near his €80m release clause as his contract expires in a year.
Indeed, last summer saw Villarreal ‘consider an offer’ of €20m from Everton, which they eventually rejected at the last minute. They would want more than that figure at this point, despite the fact this is the last summer in which they can make money from a sale.
Whether Madrid make a move remains to be seen but it seems Chukwueze could be set for a major move and upgrade on that failed switch to Goodison Park.
