Lucas Moura has told AS what Tottenham Hotspur lacked to finish higher in the league table during the 2022/23 season.
Spurs finished eighth, one point behind seventh placed Aston Villa, and will miss out on European competition next season.
Tottenham endured a difficult run this year and that resulted in them parting ways with Antonio Conte in March, before showing the exit door to his immediate successor, Cristian Stellini, a month later.
When asked why the north London club struggled last season, Moura was honest with his response.
“It was a very difficult season for the team, it ended up being frustrating. The expectation was very high, we had a qualified team to do better. The main problem was consistency. There was a lack of consistency in the team and that cost us a lot,” he said.
“It lacked that consistency that’s necessary. We ended up frustrated by the expectations we had. It’s also a very competitive league, at a very high level. You cannot hesitate or you end up going backwards.”
Spurs have already confirmed the winger will leave when his deal expires on June 30th. The Brazilian said goodbye to Tottenham supporters with a goal in their 4-1 win over Leeds United in their last games of the season.
AS asked the former PSG man if he would prefer to continue in Europe. The attacker isn’t clear where he’ll play next season and also admitted he needs to take his children into consideration when deciding his next destination.
“My thought now is to take advantage of the holidays, enjoy my country, my family and friends, rest, take advantage of this time and then prepare for the next season. There is nothing defined,” Moura explained.
“I have some offers from various clubs and I am going to wait, calmly analyse what appears and then make the decision with my family.”
Moura also told AS that there’s no plans to return to Brazil in the summer.
