Olympique Marseille have ‘made enquiries’ for Everton defender Niels Nkounkou and could be interested in bringing him back to the club.
That’s according to But! Football Club, who say the defender’s performances have ‘attracted a number of coveted clubs’ to him this summer.
Nkounkou has spent the second half of this season on loan at Saint Etienne from Everton, after cutting short an unsuccessful loan spell at Cardiff City to return to his homeland.
He’s impressed in France, bagging six goals and seven assists in a series of superb performances in a left wing back role.
If that does happen, it could lead him back to former club Marseille, who are seemingly thinking about a potential reunion.
According to But! Football Club, they have ‘recently made enquiries’ as they’re on the hunt for a new left-back because Nuno Tavares, who has spent the season on loan from Arsenal, will not be retained.
Nkounkou has demonstrated his ability to play to replace him as the left wing-back and Marseille could offer him a role playing as an understudy in the first team.
Whether they would do a deal directly with Everton or wait for Saint Etienne to sign him permanently and then move isn’t mentioned, just that they’re interested in their former youngster and could look to bring him back.
