Aston Villa will have to fight with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio in the summer.

That’s according to Wednesday’s Mundo Deportivo, who state the winger’s future is ‘debated between the two clubs’ and they are Aston Villa and PSG.

The 27-year-old has a month left on his deal and has rejected the last renewal offer made by the La Liga side. Therefore, his ‘hours are numbered’ at the Bernabéu. He now needs to make a decision between the Villans and the Ligue 1 side.

Asensio had practically decided to move to Paris. Despite this, there could be a change of plans because of Unai Emery. The ‘insistence’ of the former Arsenal boss and his ‘plan’ for the Spain international at Villa Park could favour the Premier League side.

On Tuesday, Marca reported Aston Villa have offered an important project to the attacker and Emery has personally taken charge of this operation.

Mundo now state PSG are still optimistic of bringing the Spaniard and have also stressed in the last few hours that their ‘bet is real’.

However, Asensio is managed by Jorge Mendes, who shares a good relationship with the French club’s advisor, Luis Campos, and this may give PSG an advantage over Aston Villa for the free signing in the summer.
