Last week, Bild reported Newcastle United are in the picture to sign RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai in the summer.
The forward has starred for the Bundesliga side in the recently concluded season, managing nine goals and 13 assists.
According to Nemzeti Sport, Newcastle officials have watched the 22-year-old live in action against Werder Bremen and Bayern earlier this month. He scored a goal in both games.
It’s stated the Magpies are ‘keenly interested’ in signing the Hungary international in the next window. The outlet highlighted this when relaying an update from Sky Deutschland journalist Philipp Hinze.
He claims ‘there were talks’ between Szoboszlai’s agent and the Tyneside club over a deal as the player remains a target for Eddie Howe. His contract lasts until 2026 and includes a €70m release clause.
#Szoboszlai update: There were talks between his agency & @NUFC! Szoboszlai remains internal transfer target of the Magpies. €70 million clause + salary would not be a problem. But: Interest in Maddison continues. “Kill one deal“ possible. Open end. @SkySportDE #RBLeipzig pic.twitter.com/lYMLdAQAIJ

Hinze further adds the fee plus his salary ‘would not be a problem’ for Newcastle, who are also interested in Leicester City’s James Maddison. The latter could be a cheaper option than Szoboszlai following the Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League.
