Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gündogan remains a target for Barcelona, with contract renewal talks at the Etihad yet to reach a positive conclusion.

That’s according to AS, who say the German ‘expected more from Manchester City’ in their attempts to keep him and seems to have been disappointed by the financial offer made to him.

The 32-year-old is currently focused on the Champions League final in Istanbul, which could end up being his last game for City if an agreement isn’t found to extend his current deal.

AS say Manchester City have offered the player a one-year extension to his contract, which expires on June 30th, but Gündogan ‘expected more’ from them.

He wants a longer offer first and foremost and that is why he is now listening to other offers that may be presented to him.

The operation is currently being carried out by his uncle and agent, Ilhan Gündogan and Pere Guardiola, Pep’s brother, who is acting as an intermediary with Barcelona.

Gündogan is a ‘strong candidate’ to reinforce the Catalan side next season, with them seeing him as an ‘unbeatable opportunity’ if he does leave Manchester City on a free transfer.

Contacts between Barcelona and the player’s uncle have ‘intensified’ and Gündogan is keen on the move, particularly as it would be on a three-year contract, two years more than what City are currently willing to offer.
