Newcastle United could be about to make a ‘monstrous’ offer for Napoli star Victor Osimhen and snatch him away from Manchester United in the process.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say that it is time to ‘watch out for’ Newcastle in the race for Osimhen’s signature.
He has most of Europe’s big clubs chasing him this summer after an impressive campaign in which he’s been the star of the show in Napoli’s title win.
With most of Europe’s big clubs in search of a new striker he is hot property, to say the least, with Manchester United and several other sides all registering an interest in him over the last few months.
Newcastle could be about to join them according to Gazzetta, who say the Magpies could present a ‘monstrous proposal’ for the striker.
However, their qualification for the competition this season has ‘replenished the club’s coffers’ and raised their level in terms of the players they can target in this window.
Those in charge at St James’ Park wants to make a ‘super-hit’ so they can show everyone they’re the new big club on the European scene and signing Osimhen would certainly do that.
Their ‘candidature is strong’ according to the newspaper, although Manchester United do remain in the background and ready to compete for him.
Either club will have a hard job getting a deal done with Napoli and particularly President Aurelio de Laurentiis, who does not intend to give up his centre forward easily and has ensured there is a ‘high mountain to climb’ for anyone that does want him.
