Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti wants to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham this summer to compete with Karim Benzema in their forward line.

That’s according to AS, who say that Kane is the man Madrid want if they decide to target a ‘player with more renown’ this summer.

The newspaper explains that Ancelotti is in favour of signing an experienced striker capable of ‘squeezing’ Benzema’s starting place and the ‘one he likes the most’ is Kane.

He fits in perfectly in the eyes of the coaching staff because Ancelotti has watched him up close during his time in the Premier League at Everton. He is the perfect age profile to offer immediate returns and maintain it for several seasons and has the experience required to boot.

He is also already playing at the top of his game in the hardest league in Europe, another bonus compared to other options being looked at. Furthermore, signing Kane would not block any future move for Erling Haaland next summer.

That makes him Ancelotti’s ‘preferred option’ and there is a belief a deal can be struck with Tottenham as Daniel Levy ‘owes a moral debt’ to the striker.

There is also the financial factor because Kane has entered the final year of his contract and Tottenham can no longer reject the €150m figure that they did two years ago. That works in Madrid’s favour, with Ancelotti very much a fan of bringing in Kane.
