Following the announcement from Benfica on Wednesday saying Gonçalo Guedes is going through a new knee surgery, many Portuguese newspapers today write about the 26-year-old.
The forward is loaned by Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Eagles until the end of the season, and as his future had already been unclear, this operation only raised more doubts about it.
However, as newspaper Record writes about the situation, they claim Benfica will actually work to keep the player in Lisbon.
It’s said the Eagles would like to extend the loan from Wolves for one more season, and shall start talks for that. Since the initial agreement didn’t include any kind of option, the clubs are set to hold fresh conversations.
Record adds that quotes from Wolves boss Julien Lopetegui who, at the time of the loan in January, wished Guedes good luck in Lisbon.
It never seemed like he wanted to keep the forward at Molineux, and that should play on Benfica’s side to get a new deal.
Now we shall see whether the Premier League club will accept a new loan or try to negotiate a sale.
