Unless you’ve been under a rock over the past week, you’ll know that Feyenoord manager Arne Slot now appears to be Tottenham’s first choice to replace Antonio Conte.

The Dutchman has rocketed up the pecking order at Spurs in recent weeks, with the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique and others falling by the wayside and opening up the possibility of him moving to London.

Numerous reports have made it clear Tottenham are now pushing for a deal with Feyenoord and, at least according to journalist Sjoerd Mossou, the chances of a deal being done seem high.

He’s been commenting on the potential move today to the Algemeen Dagblad football podcast, where, as you might expect, Tottenham’s interest in Slot is very much a hot topic.

With Spurs seemingly pushing to get a deal over the line but Feyenoord resistant to losing their title winning coach, a battle of wills looks set to play out, during which Slot will likely have to make a decision about his future.

He must choose whether to stay in the Netherlands and lead Feyenoord into the Champions League or go to England and lead the rebuild at Tottenham.

For most that would be an easy decision to make and Mossou thinks so as well, hinting that Slot’s departure may be a case of when, not if.

“It is a given that he will end up in a difficult situation. That was also the case with Feyenoord, but it is a bit different with Spurs,” he said.

“I think that Spurs and the Premier League are of a different calibre. In the Netherlands, the differences are relatively smaller. Expectations are high at Spurs.

“Spurs hopes to become a bit like the third or fourth club in the Premier League. But how Arsenal are now with it, Chelsea coming back with all the money and Newcastle coming in. It seems like a decent job with a decent risk of damage.

“Spurs is a wonderful club with fantastic facilities and an incredible stadium. Of course, everyone understands the attraction. Perhaps only a seasoned Feyenoord supporter does not.”
