Benfica should try to keep Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Gonçalo Guedes at the club next season.
That was this week confirmed by club director Luis Mendes, who was interviewed by Rádio Renascença (via O Jogo) and revealed the Eagles’ will.
“Let’s see, he’s a player that is not ours, let’s see if he continues,” said Mendes.
Covering the quotes, O Jogo claim they already know Benfica would try to keep the Wolves player, as long as that’s an operation ‘under certain circumstances’.
Newspaper A Bola also feature a story regarding Guedes today, but that’s actually about another subject. That’s the knee issue he had against Sporting at the weekend.
The player, who had surgery on his knee not long ago, was in pain following a challenge in the second half, and made an effort to stay on the pitch. Now the outlet claims that decision may have complicated things, and he’s now in doubt for the final fixture next weekend.
Even though that’s an issue of big concern for Benfica because of how decisive the next game could be, that shouldn’t be something for Wolves to worry about. The Molineux side should now wait and see how strong the Eagles will come with an effort to keep him this summer.
